Leaving Tomorrow! - May 21
I can't believe my road trip is starting tomorrow! I've always wanted to drive across this huge country and now I'll finally be doing it. I started in Washington, DC a couple of days ago and am now in Richmond, VA to pick up my sole travel companion- my mother. Several of my friends and family told me they would be joining me but one by one, they ALL backed out. One of my friends told me she wouldn't be coming just yesterday. Luckily, my mother was still available or else I would be doing the 3000 mile journey all by myself (or perhaps picking up some crazy hitch-hikers along the way just to keep myself entertained).
After passing through Charlottesville, VA tomorrow, we'll be traveling through the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina and staying overnight in Asheville, NC. Then we'll drive right through the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee on the only road that goes through them. This isn't the quickest way to get down South, but definitely one of the prettiest. Then the scenery will change as we go through Nashville and Memphis, perhaps stopping to say hi to Elvis at Graceland. My cousin lives in Arkansas and we'll be hanging out with her for a couple of days before driving through Oklahoma and the Texas panhandle into New Mexico. In New Mexico, we'll slow down to enjoy the beauty of the desert and hike up some mountains. Then on to Arizona to see the Grand Canyon and the red rocks of Sedona. If we have any energy left, we might go to Las Vegas but most likely will just go straight to LA where I need to find a place to stay for the summer. I just bought a cool little digital camera, so I plan to take plenty of pictures and hopefully meet some fascinating people along the way.

Our tent. We'll do some camping and stay in some hotels.
Plenty of room inside for 2 people! (That's my mom) So tonight I'll be sure to get a good sleep because tomorrow's going to be a long day. We might have to drive over 8 hours to get to Asheville.
